Wenchi Crater Lake Day Trip from Addis Ababa
If you’re looking for a more active and nature-filled day outside Addis Ababa and are reasonably fit, consider heading southwest along the scenic Ambo Road to Wenchi Crater Lake.
07:00 AM – After breakfast, we pick you up from your hotel in Addis Ababa for the 2.5-hour (150 km) drive to the beautiful Wenchi area, located in the Ethiopian highlands.
Upon arrival, we meet our local guide who will brief us on the various walking and riding options. Hikes range from 1.5 to 5 hours and can be tailored to your fitness level and interest.
Horseback riding can also be arranged on-site. No prior experience is needed — it’s a fun and relaxing way to explore the crater’s paths.
Once we reach the lakeshore, a small wooden boat transports us to a serene monastery island in the center of the crater lake.
We’ll stop for a picnic lunch in a scenic spot, enjoying local tranquility and spectacular views.
At around 4:00 PM, we begin our journey back to Addis Ababa, with drop-off at your hotel around sunset.
